What Does 220 GSM Mean? 180 vs 220 GSM
GSM stands for grams per square metre. It tells you the weight of a square metre of fabric. It is not a fabric name, a cotton percentage, or the weight of the finished T-shirt.
220 GSM ka matlab kya hai?
Agar fabric ka 1 metre × 1 metre piece lo, toh 220 GSM wale piece ka weight 220 grams hoga. 180 GSM wale same-area piece ka weight 180 grams hoga. Dono fabric-weight specifications hain.
180 GSM vs 220 GSM
| Specification | 180 GSM | 220 GSM |
|---|---|---|
| One square metre weighs | 180 grams | 220 grams |
| Relative weight | Lighter of the two | About 22% heavier per square metre |
| In our current T-shirt range | Regular fit | Oversized fit |
With otherwise comparable fabrics, the higher GSM often feels more substantial. Exact thickness, drape and comfort also depend on the fibres, yarn, knit and finishing.
Does higher GSM mean better quality?
No single number decides quality. A lighter fabric can work well for an everyday tee; a heavier one can give a more substantial feel. Stitching, fibre quality, construction and finishing matter too. GSM alone does not guarantee softness, durability, opacity or breathability.
Which should I choose for Indian weather?
Think about the weather, the garment's fit and how you plan to wear it. A lighter fabric may be a useful starting point for warm days, but airflow also depends on the knit and fibres. A 220 GSM tee is not automatically unsuitable for summer, and a lower number is not a guarantee that a tee will feel cool.
Daily wear ke liye jo feel aur fit pasand ho, woh choose karo. GSM aur fit alag cheezein hain: regular ya oversized uski cutting hai, 180 ya 220 fabric ka weight.
